The Establishment of a Museum of the History of Medicine in the Three‑Cornered Faculty Is a Symbol of Loyalty to Our Roots
According to Webda Khuzestan, Dr. Ali Khodadadi, a faculty member of Ahvaz Jundishapur University of Medical Sciences, emphasized the necessity of establishing a Museum of the History of Medicine in the Three‑Cornered Faculty building in Ahvaz during a meeting held concurrently with the 70th anniversary of the establishment of the university.
Dr. Khodadadi described this initiative as a lasting, scholarly, cultural, and value‑based endeavor, rooted in the historical status of Jundishapur as the world’s first organized university.
He stated that establishing the museum within the Three‑Cornered Faculty—recognized as the first modern medical faculty in Khuzestan—significantly enhances the project’s symbolic and historical value, creating a living link between the past, present, and future of the university.
Dr. Khodadadi added that the purpose of founding this museum is to preserve and represent the scientific and historical heritage of Jundishapur, serving as a venue for displaying historical medical instruments, documents, and photographs, as well as introducing the pioneers of medical sciences, thereby playing an important role in medical history education and professional ethics.
Referring to the opening of the museum at this historic site as a sign of the university’s loyalty to its scientific and spiritual roots, he further emphasized that, in addition to preserving scientific documents, a dedicated section of the museum should be allocated to honoring the memory of the university’s martyrs, especially student martyrs, as a reminder of the culture of sacrifice and martyrdom within the academic community.
Dr. Khodadadi concluded that the establishment of a Museum of the History of Medicine could transform Khuzestan into a national hub for scientific and cultural tourism, and, while introducing Iran’s scientific heritage, contribute to the development of health tourism and the enhancement of the university’s international standing. He described this museum as a national and international memorial that will firmly establish Jundishapur’s position as the birthplace of medical knowledge in the world.
